Marina's stage

Marina Sirtis is best known for her portrayal as Counselor Deanna Troi on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Marina played that role for five television seasons and reprised it on the silver screen in the films Generations, First Contact and most recently Insurrection. Recently, the talented actress brought her intergalactic talents to the stages of Philadelphia with Neil Simon’s play Hotel Suite.

Simon’s Suite is actually a compilation of scenes from his three plays: Plaza Suite, London Suite and California Suite. In each of the three scenes couples play out significant moments in their lives in, you guessed it, hotel rooms.

Sirtis recently commented that Simon is the Shakespeare of modern comedy, that his craft was so precise and highly developed that even when the syntax seemed a bit strange you had to trust him.

In the first of Marina’s brilliant scenes, the British-Greek actress is in California with her husband to attend the Oscar ceremonies. She’s been nominated for Best Actress and we see her preparing for the ceremony and again after she has lost the award.

The dialogue is smart, the laughs are abundant and the inside word is that Marina might be taking this role to Broad-way. If so, they would be lucky to have her.
